In the colder northern and eastern parts of its Europe and western Asia range the Common Wood Pigeon is a migrant, but in southern and western Europe it is a well distributed and often abundant resident.
The district song is vague, hoarse and not very loud cooing which begins with ruhgu, gugu. Then from 2 to 13 follows, mostly, however, from 4 to 5 times repeated fünfsilbiges rugugu, gugu and, finally, at the end mostly short gu. The mating call is shorter grrugu-ru.
