A commercial building is a building that is used for commercial use. Types can include office buildings, warehouses, or retail (i.e. convenience stores, 'big box' stores, shopping malls, etc.). In urban locations, a commercial building often combines functions, such as an office on levels 2-10, with retail on floor 1. Local authorities commonly maintain strict regulations on commercial zoning, and have the authority to designate any zoned area as such. A business must be located in a commercial area or area zoned at least partially for commerce.
Famous quotes containing the words commercial and/or building:
“There is every reason to rejoice with those self-styled prophets of commercial disaster, those harbingers of gloom,
Over the imminent lateness of the denouement that, advancing slowly, never arrives,
At the same time keeping the door open to a tongue-in-cheek attitude on the part of the perpetrators....”
—John Ashbery (b. 1927)
“And when discipline is concerned, the parent who has to make it to the end of an eighteen-hour daywho works at a job and then takes on a second shift with the kids every nightis much more likely to adopt the survivors motto: If it works, Ill use it. From this perspective, dads who are even slightly less involved and emphasize firm limits or character- building might as well be talking a foreign language. They just dont get it.”
—Ron Taffel (20th century)
