Recovery Efforts
Recovery efforts are focused on operating dams to create more of a natural flow pattern, improving fish passage up- and downstream, and restricting stocking of nonnative fish to reduce ecological interactions. Thus far, progress in recovering the pikeminnow has been limited.
Because of the program's cost, the fact that the pikeminnow is neither considered a sport nor food fish, and the conflicts with nonnative sportfish such as bass, recovery efforts are controversial.

“Its even pleasant to be sick when you know that there are people who await your recovery as they might await a holiday.”
—Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (18601904)
“Fanny was not there! How she would have enjoyed the scene.... I could not but think of her, and in spite of my efforts to prevent, the unbidden tear would flow. Alas! I cannot feel the satisfaction some appear to do in the reflection that her eyes beheld the scene from the other world.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
