Colombia At The 2004 Summer Olympics

Colombia competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. 53 competitors, 32 men and 21 women, took part in 56 events in 18 sports.

Although most of the athletes had uneventful participations, weightlifter Mabel Mosquera won the bronze medal for Colombia, while cyclist MarĂa Luisa Calle originally finished in the bronze medal position, but was later disqualified under the strict liability rule after she tested positive for Heptaminol, a prohibited stimulant. However this proved to be a false positive due to isometheptene presence in an analgesic prescribed during the competition. The bronze medal was returned to Calle on November 23, 2005.

Famous quotes containing the word summer:

The Roman rule was, to teach a boy nothing that he could not learn standing. The old English rule was, “All summer in the field, and all winter in the study.” And it seems as if a man should learn to plant, or to fish, or to hunt, that he might secure his subsistence at all events, and not be painful to his friends and fellow men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
