Clapham High Street Railway Station - Future

Future

The station is to be incorporated into London Overground under phase 2 of the extended East London Line. Mayor Boris Johnson announced the go-ahead for the extension on 16 February 2009. The new London Overground service will open on 9 December 2012, connecting Clapham Junction with Highbury & Islington, replacing the existing South London Line service.

Clapham High Street will lose its direct services to both London Bridge and London Victoria. Lobbying is currently underway to run two ELLX trains to Victoria weekdays at peak times, or to insert calls both here and at Wandsworth Road for South Eastern Trains services from Victoria to Dartford which currently pass through the station but do not stop. From 12 December 2012, one morning and one evening South Eastern Trains service will connect Clapham High Street to Victoria.

Famous quotes containing the word future:

One merit in Carlyle, let the subject be what it may, is the freedom of prospect he allows, the entire absence of cant and dogma. He removes many cartloads of rubbish, and leaves open a broad highway. His writings are all unfenced on the side of the future and the possible. Though he does but inadvertently direct our eyes to the open heavens, nevertheless he lets us wander broadly underneath, and shows them to us reflected in innumerable pools and lakes.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The danger of the past was that men became slaves. The danger of the future is that men may become robots. True enough, robots do not rebel. But given man’s nature, robots cannot live and remain sane, they become “Golems,” they will destroy their world and themselves because they cannot stand any longer the boredom of a meaningless life.
    Erich Fromm (1900–1980)

In no nation are the institutions of progress more advanced. In no nation are the fruits of accomplishment more secure. In no nation is the government more worthy of respect. No country is more loved by its people. I have an abiding faith in their capacity, integrity and high purpose. I have no fears for the future of our country. It is bright with hope.
    Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)
