Cinema Blend - History

History

The site was launched in 2001 under the name Film Hobbit, its original name attributed to founder Josh Tyler's love of movies and The Lord of the Rings. Over the next few years the site expanded by adding associate contributors and editors and now has an active staffing of around 30, some contributing to the site full time, others part-time.

In 2004 the site was relaunched under the Cinema Blend name in an attempt to move away from the now completed Lord of the Rings series and to position itself better as a serious hub for movie news and reviews. In June 2008, the site was nominated AMC's Site of the Week.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

    I saw the Arab map.
It resembled a mare shuffling on,
    dragging its history like saddlebags,
nearing its tomb and the pitch of hell.
Adonis [Ali Ahmed Said] (b. 1930)

The greatest horrors in the history of mankind are not due to the ambition of the Napoleons or the vengeance of the Agamemnons, but to the doctrinaire philosophers. The theories of the sentimentalist Rousseau inspired the integrity of the passionless Robespierre. The cold-blooded calculations of Karl Marx led to the judicial and business-like operations of the Cheka.
    Aleister Crowley (1875–1947)

The history of all countries shows that the working class exclusively by its own effort is able to develop only trade-union consciousness.
    Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870–1924)
