On October 20, 2001, Applegate married longtime boyfriend, actor Johnathon Schaech, in a small Palm Springs, California ceremony attended by family and close friends. Schaech filed for divorce in November 2005, citing irreconcilable differences. Applegate and Schaech's final divorce papers were entered August 10, 2007, in Los Angeles Superior Court. In 2008, Applegate began dating musician Martyn LeNoble. They became engaged on Valentine's Day 2010, and wed on February 23, 2013, at their Los Angeles home. It is the second marriage for both. Applegate and LeNoble have one daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, born on January 27, 2011.
She is a longtime friend of Lance Bass of the boy band 'N Sync. On July 1, 2008, her close friend and ex-boyfriend Lee Grivas was found dead of an apparent drug overdose. Applegate is a vegetarian, and in 2007, appeared in an anti-fur ad for PETA.
