The Chicago Highlanders Pipe Band is a pipe band founded in 1921 in Chicago, Illinois by Robert Sim. Robert Sim later went on to be Pipe Major of the Chicago Stockyard Kilty Band.
The band currently practices at Bethel Lutheran Church in the village of Palatine, Illinois, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. every Thursday night of the week throughout the year. Famous quotes containing the words chicago, pipe and/or band:
“Must we really see Chicago in order to be educated?”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
“If you love music, hear it; go to operas, concerts and pay fiddlers to play to you; but I insist on your neither piping nor fiddling yourself. It puts a gentleman in a very frivolous, contemptible light.... Few things would mortify me more than to see you bearing a part in a concert, with a fiddle under your chin, or a pipe in your mouth.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
“The band waked me with a serenade. How they improve! A fine band and what a life in a regiment! Their music is better than food and clothing to give spirit to the men.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
