Chartered Institute of Taxation - Activities

Activities

The primary purpose of the CIOT is to promote education in and the study of the administration and practice of taxation. One of its key aims is to achieve a better, more efficient, tax system for all affected by it - taxpayers, advisers and the authorities. The CIOT’s comments and recommendations on tax issues are made solely in order to achieve its aims: it is entirely apolitical in its work.

Membership is awarded on passing the Institute's examination and completing 3 years' practical UK taxation experience. Members may use the letters CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser), formerly ATII (Associate of the Taxation Institute Incorporated). The CIOT describes its qualifications as the ' gold standard'. Fellowship is available following the submission of a thesis or a body of work. Fellow members may use the letters CTA(Fellow), formerly FTII, after their name to indicate fellowship.

Famous quotes containing the word activities:

If it is to be done well, child-rearing requires, more than most activities of life, a good deal of decentering from one’s own needs and perspectives. Such decentering is relatively easy when a society is stable and when there is an extended, supportive structure that the parent can depend upon.
    David Elkind (20th century)

That is the real pivot of all bourgeois consciousness in all countries: fear and hate of the instinctive, intuitional, procreative body in man or woman. But of course this fear and hate had to take on a righteous appearance, so it became moral, said that the instincts, intuitions and all the activities of the procreative body were evil, and promised a reward for their suppression. That is the great clue to bourgeois psychology: the reward business.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

The interpretation of dreams is the royal road to a knowledge of the unconscious activities of the mind.
    Sigmund Freud (1856–1939)
