Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada - Special State Privileges

Special State Privileges

All former speakers of the Verkhovna Rada received special state privileges. After the completion of their tenure, former speakers are provided with cabinets in the parliament's building, an official government car and an adviser and an aide at the state expense.

The respective decree #296 was signed by Volodymyr Lytvyn as early as on June 7, 2006 – a month before he was dismissed from the post of Parliament's Speaker. After three years since its adoption, Verkhovna Rada officials kept silent about the law, after which it was made public by an article in the DELO newspaper in mid-May 2009.

Famous quotes containing the words special, state and/or privileges:

It is surely a matter of common observation that a man who knows no one thing intimately has no views worth hearing on things in general. The farmer philosophizes in terms of crops, soils, markets, and implements, the mechanic generalizes his experiences of wood and iron, the seaman reaches similar conclusions by his own special road; and if the scholar keeps pace with these it must be by an equally virile productivity.
    Charles Horton Cooley (1864–1929)

The State is to make what is useful. The individual is to make what is beautiful.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

Solomon’s ... excess became an insult upon the privileges of mankind; for by the same plan of luxury, which made it necessary to have forty thousand stalls of horses,—he had unfortunately miscalculated his other wants, and so had seven hundred wives....
    Wise—deluded man!
    Laurence Sterne (1713–1768)
