Carrera Autopodistica - Races

Races

There are two competitions on a single day. The Coppa Terme, on a distance of 1.600 metres, has its starting line at the beginning of Viale delle Terme and its finish line at the entrance of the spa building. The Carrera Autopodistica, the main event, takes place in the heart of the historical city centre of the town, with the starting and finish lines in Piazza XX Settembre: the distance covered is 1.250 metres long and it is repeated twice.

Famous quotes containing the word races:

Arrive at New Orleans, a city of ships, steamers, flatboats, rafts, mud, fog, filth, stench, and a mixture of races and tongues. Cholera, “some.” [At] Planters’ Hotel. Mem:—Never get caught in a cheap tavern in a strange city.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

Late in the afternoon we passed a man on the shore fishing with a long birch pole.... The characteristics and pursuits of various ages and races of men are always existing in epitome in every neighborhood. The pleasures of my earliest youth have become the inheritance of other men. This man is still a fisher, and belongs to an era in which I myself have lived.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Listen, my friend, there are two races of beings. The masses teeming and happy—common clay, if you like—eating, breeding, working, counting their pennies; people who just live; ordinary people; people you can’t imagine dead. And then there are the others—the noble ones, the heroes. The ones you can quite well imagine lying shot, pale and tragic; one minute triumphant with a guard of honor, and the next being marched away between two gendarmes.
    Jean Anouilh (1910–1987)
