Cardinal Newman Catholic High School (Luton) - School Life and Houses

School Life and Houses

The school was in fact opened in September 1968 under the headship of Mr William Davies. When the school opened there were only two year groups, the first year as it was called then which had five classes and a second year consisting of pupils who had already completed their first year in other non-catholic senior schools in the town. Year two had three classes. It was not until September 1971 that the school had year groups from one to five. The Sixth Form was opened in September 1974. In the early years there were three houses identified by a colour rather than by a name or title.

Famous quotes containing the words school, life and/or houses:

One non-revolutionary weekend is infinitely more bloody than a month of permanent revolution.
Graffiti, School of Oriental Languages, London (1968)

Well, on the official record you’re my son. But on this post you’re just another trooper. You heard me tell the recruits what I need from them. Twice that I will expect from you.... You’ve chosen my way of life. I hope you have the guts enough to endure it. But put outa your mind any romantic ideas that it’s a way to glory. It’s a life of suffering and of hardship and uncompromising devotion to your oath and your duty.
James Kevin McGuinness, and John Ford. Lt. Col. Kirby Yorke (John Wayne)

A feeble man can see the farms that are fenced and tilled, the houses that are built. The strong man sees the possible houses and farms. His eye makes estates, as fast as the sun breeds clouds.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
