Capitol Hill (Oklahoma City) - Art and Culture

Art and Culture

The area is now the center of Hispanic oriented commerce, culture, and nightlife, including the Oklahoma Opry, restaurants, bakeries, graphic designers, churches, and service businesses. One of the major employers in the area is the Community Action Agency of Oklahoma and Canadian Counties.

Though the area was annexed by Oklahoma City, it has retained its own chamber of commerce, community newspaper and even its own downtown along Commerce Street.

Famous quotes containing the words art and, art and/or culture:

Memento mori and obey the Lord.
Art and religion love the somber chord.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

There is no art without Eros.
    Max Frisch (1911–1991)

Culture is the suggestion, from certain best thoughts, that a man has a range of affinities through which he can modulate the violence of any master-tones that have a droning preponderance in his scale, and succor him against himself. Culture redresses this imbalance, puts him among equals and superiors, revives the delicious sense of sympathy, and warns him of the dangers of solitude and repulsion.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
