BWG Foods - History

History

In 2000 BWG purchased the Mace franchise area in Munster owned by Vantage Wholesale, merging it with its existing franchise area in Leinster.

BWG was owned by Pernod Ricard until 2002, who had acquired the business as part of Irish Distillers and it was not core to their plans. BWG was sold via a management buyout financed by Electra Partners Europe for 220m euro. The current owners bought out Electra in 2006 through a vehicle called Triode, with a value of 390m euro placed on the firm.

BWG also owned an off-licence chain in the United Kingdom, Bargain Booze, but this was sold in 2004. It also previously owned Bellevue cash & carry in Edinburgh.

It formerly also held the Northern Ireland franchise for Mace, but in December 2003 sold its subsidiary, J&J Haslett, via a management buy out. Musgrave Group has since bought J&J Haslett.

In 2008 BWG purchased Mangan Bros. This business consisted of 8 cash and carries in the West of Ireland and a distribution centre in Collooney in County Sligo. Mangans had owned the Mace franchise, largely west of the River Shannon.

In May 2012 BWG acquired Morris Bros of Convoy Donegal. Morris are a wholesale distributor, not a cash & carry and supply Gala stores and independent retailers in the north west of Ireland.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The steps toward the emancipation of women are first intellectual, then industrial, lastly legal and political. Great strides in the first two of these stages already have been made of millions of women who do not yet perceive that it is surely carrying them towards the last.
Ellen Battelle Dietrick, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4, ch. 13, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)

The reverence for the Scriptures is an element of civilization, for thus has the history of the world been preserved, and is preserved.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now.
    Richard M. Nixon (b. 1913)
