Government and Politics
A new mayor was elected during the May 14, 2007 elections when Ruben Tegui defeated Felixnaldo Alabon, Sr., by winning just 147 votes. His victory ended the reign of the Alabons in the municipality for 15 years. Alabon was elected mayor from 1992-2001. When he reached the maximum of three consecutive terms allowed by the Philippine Constitution, he was replaced by his wife Evelyn in 2001. He was reelected in 2004, defeating Tegui.
In the 2010 General Elections, Tegui was given a fresh mandate when he got an overwhelming majority vote cast.

Famous quotes containing the words government and/or politics:
“The tide which, after our former relaxed government, took a violent course towards the opposite extreme, and seemed ready to hang every thing round with the tassils and baubles of monarchy, is now getting back as we hope to a just mean, a government of laws addressed to the reason of the people, and not to their weaknesses.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“Man made one grave mistake: in answer to vaguely reformist and humanitarian agitation he admitted women to politics and the professions. The conservatives who saw this as the undermining of our civilization and the end of the state and marriage were right after all; it is time for the demolition to begin.”
—Germaine Greer (b. 1939)
