Bumblebee appears in the pilot episode of the series responding too late to a call for help from Cliffjumper, who is captured by the Decepticons and killed. Bumblebee soon is assigned to be Raf Esquivel's guardian. They grow close, partly thanks to the fact Raf can somehow understand Bumblebee's language of beeping, and when Megatron nearly kills the boy, Bumblebee is enraged, but is able to help save the boy's life via a transfusion of Energon. In the Operation: Bumblebee two-parter, Bumblebee loses his transformation cog, robbing him of his ability to transform and his speed. Bumblebee eventually retrieves the cog from human terrorist group M.E.C.H. and Starscream.
