Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust - History

History

Between 1979 and 1989 The Disabilities Trust opened two residential services in Sussex for adults with physical disabilities. Both these services were formally opened by Her Royal Highness Diana, Princess of Wales.

In 1991 the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) was established, and The Trust's first specialist brain injury rehabilitation service was opened in Milton Keynes. The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust has since grown to be one of Europe’s largest providers of specialist brain injury rehabilitation.

The Disabilities Trust continued to grow throughout the 1990s and 2000s and extended its provision to include services for adults with autism and special education for children with autism and Asperger syndrome. In 2004 the Trust welcomed Hamilton Lodge in Essex, a service for adults with learning disabilities.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

I cannot be much pleased without an appearance of truth; at least of possibility—I wish the history to be natural though the sentiments are refined; and the characters to be probable, though their behaviour is excelling.
    Frances Burney (1752–1840)

American time has stretched around the world. It has become the dominant tempo of modern history, especially of the history of Europe.
    Harold Rosenberg (1906–1978)

Throughout the history of commercial life nobody has ever quite liked the commission man. His function is too vague, his presence always seems one too many, his profit looks too easy, and even when you admit that he has a necessary function, you feel that this function is, as it were, a personification of something that in an ethical society would not need to exist. If people could deal with one another honestly, they would not need agents.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)
