Bracknell Queen Bees

Bracknell Queen Bees IHC is a ladies’ ice hockey club based in Bracknell, Berkshire, England. They are located at the John Nike Leisuresport complex in Bracknell. Their home ice rink is affectionately known as the Hive.

The club operates three teams that compete in the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) women's leagues:

The Queen Bees, competing in the EIHA women's Premier division,

The Fire Bees, competing in the EIHA women’s Division 1 South,

The Ice Bees, a team of junior girls competing in the EIHA women's U16 South Division

The Queen Bees club was founded November 1987, when the rink at Bracknell opened. It has supplied players for the GB ice or inline / skater hockey teams in most years since. The Firebees team was formed later as a development squad in September 2005, entering division 1 for its maiden season in 2006 after 6 friendlies. In 2007 the Ice Bees were formed. A team specifically for girls under the age of 16 years old.

All teams play in the same strip. Previously the Queen Bees played in black and gold (away) or black and white (home) horizontal stripes. To conform with new league rules the strip was altered in 2006, but the club colours of black and gold remain the same.

The teams are coached by Paul Burton and assistant Sam Phillips.

Famous quotes containing the words queen bees, queen and/or bees:

If it were worth while to argue a paradox, one might maintain that nature regards the female as the essential, the male as the superfluity of her world. Perhaps the best starting-point for study of the Virgin would be a practical acquaintance with bees, and especially with queen bees.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)

We are no more free agents than the queen of clubs when she victoriously takes prisoner the knave of hearts.
    Mary Wortley, Lady Montagu (1689–1762)

The farmers crowd to the fair today in obedience to the same ancient law,... as naturally as bees swarm and follow their queen.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
