Women's Ice Hockey in Great Britain

Women's Ice Hockey in Great Britain is administered by the English and Scottish Ice Hockey Associations. It is one of the fastest growing areas of the game.

The British Women's Leagues were formed with five teams in 1984. The founder members of the league were:

  • Brighton Amazons
  • Cambridge University
  • Oxford University
  • Peterborough Ravens
  • Solihull Vixens

Of those teams, only two are still in league play today, Oxford University and Solihull, while the Cambridge University has a non-league team. After the Ravens folded, a new team, the Penguins was set up in Peterborough.

Famous quotes containing the words women, ice and/or britain:

The only difference between men and women is that women are able to create new little human beings in their bodies while simultaneously writing books, driving tractors, working in offices, planting crops—in general, doing everything men do.
    Erica Jong (20th century)

She has been man’s slave. He has been educated at her expense. If he bought the ice cream, she was expected to pay for all his luxuries in reduced wages. She has done the drudgery and borne the insults of those who wronged her, assuming to be her protector.
    Caroline Nichols Churchill (1833–?)

I see no cameras! Where are the cameras?
Mary, Queen of Great Britain (1867–1953)
