Name
The name comes from borscht (also transliterated as 'borsch'), a beet-based soup from the areas of the former Russian Empire that was brought by Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants to the United States, where it remains a popular dish.
It is a play-on-words of the term "Bible Belt".
