Billy Ryan High School - History

History

Ryan originally served as the replacement of Denton High School. Until 1994, all 10th, 11th and 12th grade students attended Ryan, while 9th grade students attended the old Denton High School, transformed to become (temporarily) the Freshman school center. By 1994, the Denton Independent School District (DISD) had considered establishing two high schools. In 1995, and above the objections of the Class of 1996 voiced at the decisive DISD Board meeting to divide the school district, the DISD School Board voted to re-establish a high school at the old Denton High School building, creating two high schools to service the district. However, the DISD School Board also allowed both the graduating classes of 1995 and 1996 to graduate intact. The last class to graduate as a unified Denton High School class wearing the Denton school colors occurred in 1995, as the Class of 1996 elected to graduate wearing the RHS colors. From 1997 onward, the Denton Independent School District operated with multiple high schools; Denton High School and Ryan High School.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Tell me of the height of the mountains of the moon, or of the diameter of space, and I may believe you, but of the secret history of the Almighty, and I shall pronounce thee mad.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

We don’t know when our name came into being or how some distant ancestor acquired it. We don’t understand our name at all, we don’t know its history and yet we bear it with exalted fidelity, we merge with it, we like it, we are ridiculously proud of it as if we had thought it up ourselves in a moment of brilliant inspiration.
    Milan Kundera (b. 1929)

History is not what you thought. It is what you can remember. All other history defeats itself.
In Beverly Hills ... they don’t throw their garbage away. They make it into television shows.
Idealism is the despot of thought, just as politics is the despot of will.
    Mikhail Bakunin (1814–1876)
