Beckenham Town F.C. - Ground

Ground

The Reds have played at Eden Park Avenue since they moved from the council-owned Stanhope Recreation Ground in the 1980. The ground has excellent floodlighting, and improvements to the ground are currently ongoing, with a new car park having recently been opened.

Groundsman Ian Muir won the Football Association's Groundsman of the Year award for the season 2004–05, having produced a pitch which the experts deemed "top class". In 2003 Beckenham were awarded £100,000 by the Football Foundation for ground improvements. In the summer of 2004 a new pitch with improved drainage was laid along with hard standing all round. It was also decided to invest in perimeter fencing around the ground to deter vandals. There are plans in the pipe-line for further improvements. Beckenham's' best home crowd is 1,562, against a Celebrity XI in June 2009.

Famous quotes containing the word ground:

    Some people are like ants. Give them a warm day and a piece of ground and they start digging. There the similarity ends. Ants keep on digging. Most people don’t. They establish contact with the soil, absorb so much vernal vigor that they can’t stay in one place, and desert the fork or spade to see how the rhubarb is coming and whether the asparagus is yet in sight.
    Hal Borland (1900–1978)

    The poet is like the prince of the clouds
    Who haunts the tempest and laughs at the archer;
    Exiled on the ground in the midst of jeers,
    His giant’s wings prevent him from walking.
    Charles Baudelaire (1821–1867)

    Keep out of Chancery.... It’s being ground to bits in a slow mill; it’s being roasted at a slow fire; it’s being stung to death by single bees; it’s being drowned by drops; it’s going mad by grains.
    Charles Dickens (1812–1870)
