Ball Joint - Purpose

Purpose

Ball joints are the pivot between the wheels and the suspension of an automobile. They are universally used in the front suspension, but can also be found in the rear suspension of a few higher performance autos. Ball joints play a critical role in the safe operation of an automobile's steering and suspension.

In automobile suspension nomenclature, the upper ball joint is called the "upper ball joint" and the lower is called the "lower ball joint". Lower ball joints are typically larger and wear out faster as the entire front end weight rests solely upon them.

Famous quotes containing the word purpose:

During the cattle drives, Texas cowboy music came into national significance. Its practical purpose is well known—it was used primarily to keep the herds quiet at night, for often a ballad sung loudly and continuously enough might prevent a stampede. However, the cowboy also sang because he liked to sing.... In this music of the range and trail is “the grayness of the prairies, the mournful minor note of a Texas norther, and a rhythm that fits the gait of the cowboy’s pony.”
—Administration in the State of Texa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

I don’t think life is absurd. I think we are all here for a huge purpose. I think we shrink from the immensity of the purpose we are here for.
    Norman Mailer (b. 1923)

Most Americans are born drunk, and really require a little wine or beer to sober them. They have a sort of permanent intoxication from within, a sort of invisible champagne.... Americans do not need to drink to inspire them to do anything, though they do sometimes, I think, need a little for the deeper and more delicate purpose of teaching them how to do nothing.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)
