The second ocean rowing race saw 36 teams of two, from twelve different countries, depart from Playa San Juan, Tenerife, on 7 October 2001 to race over 3000 nm to Barbados. 33 boats made it successfully to the finish with Debra Veal, now Debra Searle MBE, famously finishing alone after her husband left the boat on 21 October 2001.
