Ashton Meadows Public School - History

History

Ashton Meadows Public School was officially opened in 1997. Prior to being named, the school was known as "Buttonville North" in honour of its location and in reference to the holding school, Buttonville Public School. Ashton is located in the western area of Markham. The school attendance area is bounded on the south by Sixteenth Avenue, on the east of Woodbine Avenue, on the west of Warden Avenue, and on the north by the homes on Personna Boulevard.

A child-care centre, Ashton Meadows Child Care, owned and operated by Upper Canada Child Care, is located at Ashton Meadows. The centre staff work closely with teachers and parents and administration to support students attending the school.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

What would we not give for some great poem to read now, which would be in harmony with the scenery,—for if men read aright, methinks they would never read anything but poems. No history nor philosophy can supply their place.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

A poet’s object is not to tell what actually happened but what could or would happen either probably or inevitably.... For this reason poetry is something more scientific and serious than history, because poetry tends to give general truths while history gives particular facts.
    Aristotle (384–323 B.C.)

It takes a great deal of history to produce a little literature.
    Henry James (1843–1916)
