Army of Naples - Creation of The Army of Naples

Creation of The Army of Naples

The French lost 600 men in the fight for Naples. Napolitan losses were also substantial. Taking Naples, the French captured 60 cannons, 6 flags, and 4,000 Albanese and Swiss troops who had remained in Naples after the dispersion of the Napolitan army. The French army received the Title Army of Naples from its general in a ceremony on January 25. A Te Deum was sung in all the churches and the general in chief gave a proclamation calling all Napolitans to freedom and reassuring them of the benevolence of the French government.

Famous quotes containing the words creation of, creation and/or army:

Poetry, at all times, exercises two distinct functions: it may reveal, it may unveil to every eye, the ideal aspects of common things ... or it may actually add to the number of motives poetic and uncommon in themselves, by the imaginative creation of things that are ideal from their very birth.
    Walter Pater (1839–1894)

Man is a masterpiece of creation if for no other reason than that, all the weight of evidence for determinism notwithstanding, he believes he has free will.
    —G.C. (Georg Christoph)

This fantastic state of mind, of a humanity that has outrun its ideas, is matched by a political scene in the grotesque style, with Salvation Army methods, hallelujahs and bell-ringing and dervishlike repetition of monotonous catchwords, until everybody foams at the mouth. Fanaticism turns into a means of salvation, enthusiasm into epileptic ecstacy, politics becomes an opiate for the masses, a proletarian eschatology; and reason veils her face.
    Thomas Mann (1875–1955)
