Arlington Park

Arlington Park is a horse race track in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Horse racing in the Chicago region has been a popular sport since the early days of the city in the 1830s, and at one time Chicago had more horse racing tracks (six) than any other major metropolitan area. Arlington Park was the site of the first thoroughbred race with a million-dollar purse in 1981. It is located near the Illinois Route 53 freeway.

Famous quotes containing the words arlington and/or park:

If after all that we have lived and thought,
    All comes to Nought,—
If there be nothing after Now,
    And we be nothing anyhow,
    And we know that,—why live?
    —Edwin Arlington Robinson (1869–1935)

Is a park any better than a coal mine? What’s a mountain got that a slag pile hasn’t? What would you rather have in your garden—an almond tree or an oil well?
    Jean Giraudoux (1882–1944)
