Archbold High School - History

History

The New Archbold High School was erected in 1990. It sits on LaFayette street, right next to the new elementary school, which was built in 1997. The High School has had several locations around their school district. It was located at the current middle school, which sits on Holland Street, but now sits on Lafayette. Former students used to ride the bus out to the school in Ridgeville. That building currently serves as the "Christ Community Church".

The nickname of the Blue Streak was given to Archbold High School by a former Archbold Coach M.A. Farber. Farber was the head coach at Archbold between 1930-49. After watching Sandusky play, he liked the name of Blue Streaks. Farber decided to call Archbold that since he knew they would probably never play each other because of the difference in school size. Farber gave them the name in 1933. Prior to that Archbold was known as "the Archbold Team." In the 1910s some of the fathers wanted Archbold to be called the Archbold Germans, because most of the players at that time were of German origin. But the name never caught on.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

A poet’s object is not to tell what actually happened but what could or would happen either probably or inevitably.... For this reason poetry is something more scientific and serious than history, because poetry tends to give general truths while history gives particular facts.
    Aristotle (384–323 B.C.)

History is the present. That’s why every generation writes it anew. But what most people think of as history is its end product, myth.
    —E.L. (Edgar Lawrence)

It’s nice to be a part of history but people should get it right. I may not be perfect, but I’m bloody close.
    John Lydon (formerly Johnny Rotten)
