Museum
Wujoud, the Arabic word for "existence" is a cultural center and museum celebrating Palestinian heritage, set within a 650 year old building donated to the Arab Orthodox Society by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate. The museum overlooks one of the two Old City dry pools, Hezekiah's Pool which is called the Bath of the Patriarchs. Built during the Mamluk period, used by the Ottoman military, and then as a residential home at the end of the British Mandate, the building was neglected for 42 years before it was renovated and restored on May 14, 2010. Wujoud includes an ethno-museum, cultural center and a cafeteria.

Famous quotes containing the word museum:
“The Museum is not meant either for the wanderer to see by accident or for the pilgrim to see with awe. It is meant for the mere slave of a routine of self-education to stuff himself with every sort of incongruous intellectual food in one indigestible meal.”
—Gilbert Keith Chesterton (18741936)
“I have no connections here; only gusty collisions,
rootless seedlings forced into bloom, that collapse.
...
I am the Visiting Poet: a real unicorn,
a wind-up plush dodo, a wax museum of the Movement.
People want to push the buttons and see me glow.”
—Marge Piercy (b. 1936)
“A Museum of fetishes would give special attention to the history of underwear.”
—Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
