Arab Orthodox Society

The Arab Orthodox Society is a charitable organization in Eastern Jerusalem. Their mission is to bring relief and opportunity to the people of the greater Jerusalem area, and to preserve and promote Palestinian cultural heritage. They do this by providing medical care and employment opportunities, and by creating a museum and cultural center. Historically the organization is part of the Arab Orthodox movement within the Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem.

Famous quotes containing the words arab, orthodox and/or society:

    I saw the Arab map.
It resembled a mare shuffling on,
    dragging its history like saddlebags,
nearing its tomb and the pitch of hell.
Adonis [Ali Ahmed Said] (b. 1930)

The gloomy theology of the orthodox—the Calvinists—I do not, I cannot believe. Many of the notions—nay, most of the notions—which orthodox people have of the divinity of the Bible, I disbelieve. I am so nearly infidel in all my views, that too, in spite of my wishes, that none but the most liberal doctrines can command my assent.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

As a remedy to life in society I would suggest the big city. Nowadays, it is the only desert within our means.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)
