Community Service Projects
- Victor Babes Hospital: AISB has been involved with this state-run hospital for HIV-positive children which houses 1 - 2 children, most without families, for many years. Students visit the hospital each month and provide activities and projects for the children.
- Children's Respiratory Hospital; Working with Children's Relief Network, AISB students are trained in infant play therapy and have been assisting each week in small groups. Fund-raising activities accompany each of the service projects. AISB students visit infants weekly and work to involve these small children in engaging physically and emotionally with others, thus making up for the lack of human contact in many of the state institutions.
- Jesus Loves Romania Orphanage: AISB provides games, tutoring in computers, English instruction and other various activities at four orphanage homes in Bucharest with 100 children ranging in age from infant to 18 years old.
- Back to School Foundation: This program is a tutorial project in which AISB students help other students from a Romanian school devoted to re-integrating Romanian students back to their school system. The Foundation operating this program was set up five years ago to help rescue school dropouts who cannot easily re-enter the Romanian education system if they have missed two or more years of schooling. Small groups of these students come to AISB weekly for tutoring in computers, English and Math.
- Pipera House: Students travel weekly to this foster care home near the AISB campus to tutor and play with the 5 HIV/AIDS students who are new to family life, having previously spent their years in institutions.
- International Children's Center: ICC is an orphanage situated outside of Bucharest, visited regularly by 8th grade students. This is a middle school initiative, not available as an option for senior students.

Famous quotes containing the words community, service and/or projects:
“Stories of law violations are weighed on a different set of scales in the Black mind than in the white. Petty crimes embarrass the community and many people wistfully wonder why Negroes dont rob more banks, embezzle more funds and employ graft in the unions.... This ... appeals particularly to one who is unable to compete legally with his fellow citizens.”
—Maya Angelou (b. 1928)
“The man of large and conspicuous public service in civil life must be content without the Presidency. Still more, the availability of a popular man in a doubtful State will secure him the prize in a close contest against the first statesman of the country whose State is safe.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
“But look what we have built ... low-income projects that become worse centers of delinquency, vandalism and general social hopelessness than the slums they were supposed to replace.... Cultural centers that are unable to support a good bookstore. Civic centers that are avoided by everyone but bums.... Promenades that go from no place to nowhere and have no promenaders. Expressways that eviscerate great cities. This is not the rebuilding of cities. This is the sacking of cities.”
—Jane Jacobs (b. 1916)
