American Academy of Hospitality Sciences - The International Star Diamond Award

The International Star Diamond Award

The most known aspect of the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences is the International Star Diamond Award which it sells to a wide range of businesses. The award is sold and marketed by Mr. Cinque as the most prestigious award of true excellence in hospitality, gastronomy, attitude, quality, cleanliness and above all service. The Academy tries to sell this product to a large number of recipients around the world. The selection is then refined by Mr. Cinque, based in part by what each business is willing to pay. No property inspection is required and according to most owners, many award recipients have never been inspected, initially or thereafter if they are willing to pay for a successive year's listing.

The award itself has five formats:

  • For hotels and resorts, properties can pay for a set of gold-plated plaques including the logo and engraved signatures of the three board members;
  • For restaurants, properties can pay for a set of plaques, both gold and silver-plated, with the logo and signatures;
  • For chefs, they can pay fora plaque with recognition engravings and a medal;
  • A framed letter from the Academy recognizing the destination's winning of the award;
  • Lapel pins and cuff links in a jewelry box are also sold.

An additional format of a plate has been used for chefs.

    So much is being now expected of....
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

    Masts in the offing wagged their tops;
    The swinging waves pealed on the shore;
    The saffron beach, all diamond drops
    And beads of surge, prolonged the roar.
    John Davidson (1857–1909)

    The award of a pure gold medal for poetry would flatter the recipient unduly: no poem ever attains such carat purity.
    Robert Graves (1895–1985)
