The Alexander Peden Stone was where Rev. Alexander Peden and others were said to have preached from to the Covenanters. The monument was erected around 1866 and is maintained by a local Covenanters committee. The stone on which the monument is mounted would have been used as the plinth by preachers.

Famous quotes containing the words alexander and/or stone:
“I thought when I was a young man that I would conquer the world with truth. I thought I would lead an army greater than Alexander ever dreamed of. Not to conquer nations, but to liberate mankind. With truth. With the golden sound of the Word. But only a few of them heard. Only a few of you understood. The rest of you put on black and sat in chapel.”
—Philip Dunne (1908–1992)
“Dylan used to sound like a lung cancer victim singing Woody Guthrie. Now he sounds like a Rolling Stone singing Immanuel Kant.”
