Alaungpaya

Alaungpaya (Burmese: အလောင်းဘုရား, ; also spelled Alaunghpaya; 24 September 1714 – 11 May 1760) was king of Burma (Myanmar) from 1752 to 1760, and the founder of the Konbaung Dynasty. By his death in 1760, the former chief of a small village in Upper Burma had reunified all of Burma, subdued Manipur, recovered Lan Na, and driven out the French and the English who had given help to the Restored Hanthawaddy Kingdom. He also founded Yangon in 1755. He died from illness during his campaign in Siam.

He is considered one of the three greatest kings of Burma, alongside Anawrahta and Bayinnaung, for unifying the country for the third time in Burmese history.
