Agriculture in Portugal - Major Agricultural Products

Major Agricultural Products

Portugal's climatic and topographic conditions allow for an extremely large number of crops, including olives, figs, citrus, mushrooms, sunflower, tomatoes, cereals, bananas (in Madeira Island) and pineapple (in São Miguel Island). Wine, table grapes, leaf vegetables, dairy, tomatoes for processing, rice, sugar beets, mushrooms, cork and olives are very competitive. Improved marketing practices since the 1990s, enabled fresh horticultural and fruit products of Portuguese origin to become widely demanded in both the domestic and export markets.

Famous quotes containing the words major and/or products:

Self-esteem evolves in kids primarily through the quality of our relationships with them. Because they can’t see themselves directly, children know themselves by reflection. For the first several years of their lives, you are their major influence. Later on, teachers and friends come into the picture. But especially at the beginning, you’re it with a capital I.
    Stephanie Martson (20th century)

    Good wine needs no bush,
And perhaps products that people really want need no
    hard-sell or soft-sell TV push.
    Why not?
    Look at pot.
    Ogden Nash (1902–1971)
