Afonso de Albuquerque - Issue

Issue

Afonso de Albuquerque had a bastard son from an unknown woman. He legitimized the boy in February 1506. Upon his death he asked king Manuel I to leave him all his wealth and that he took care of his education. When Albuquerque died, king Manuel I renamed the child "Afonso" in his father's memory. BrĂ¡s Afonso de Albuquerque, or Braz in the old spelling, was born in 1500 and died in 1580.

Famous quotes containing the word issue:

Parents are led to believe that they must be consistent, that is, always respond to the same issue the same way. Consistency is good up to a point but your child also needs to understand context and subtlety . . . much of adult life is governed by context: what is appropriate in one setting is not appropriate in another; the way something is said may be more important than what is said. . . .
    Stanley I. Greenspan (20th century)

Because of these convictions, I made a personal decision in the 1964 Presidential campaign to make education a fundamental issue and to put it high on the nation’s agenda. I proposed to act on my belief that regardless of a family’s financial condition, education should be available to every child in the United States—as much education as he could absorb.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)

If someone does something we disapprove of, we regard him as bad if we believe we can deter him from persisting in his conduct, but we regard him as mad if we believe we cannot. In either case, the crucial issue is our control of the other: the more we lose control over him, and the more he assumes control over himself, the more, in case of conflict, we are likely to consider him mad rather than just bad.
    Thomas Szasz (b. 1920)
