A7 Motorway (Netherlands) - Speed Limit Experiment

Speed Limit Experiment

From March 2011, on a section of the A7 motorway, motorists were allowed to drive at 130 km/h, opposed to the then national speed limit of 120 km/h. This was a government test to investigate if driving at these higher speeds have an effect on the environment and safety. The test resulted positively, and the national speed limit was raised to 130 km/h in October 2012.

Famous quotes containing the words speed, limit and/or experiment:

There exist certain individuals who are, by nature, given purely to contemplation and are utterly unsuited to action, and who, nevertheless, under a mysterious and unknown impulse, sometimes act with a speed which they themselves would have thought beyond them.
    Charles Baudelaire (1821–1867)

There is a limit to the application of democratic methods. You can inquire of all the passengers as to what type of car they like to ride in, but it is impossible to question them as to whether to apply the brakes when the train is at full speed and accident threatens.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)

Mathematics alone make us feel the limits of our intelligence. For we can always suppose in the case of an experiment that it is inexplicable because we don’t happen to have all the data. In mathematics we have all the data ... and yet we don’t understand. We always come back to the contemplation of our human wretchedness. What force is in relation to our will, the impenetrable opacity of mathematics is in relation to our intelligence.
    Simone Weil (1909–1943)
