4th MAW consists of seven subordinate groups and a headquarters squadron:
- Marine Aircraft Group 41 - Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth
- Marine Aircraft Group 46 - Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (deactivated in 2009)
- Marine Aircraft Group 49 - Naval Air Station Willow Grove
- Marine Air Control Group 48 - Naval Station Great Lakes
- Marine Wing Support Group 47 - Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton
- 4th Marine Aircraft Wing Training Support Group - Naval Air Station Pensacola
