“There can only be one Commander-in-Chief. In these times, crises cannot be managed and wars cannot be waged by committee. To the ears of the world, the President speaks for the nation. While he is of course ultimately accountable to Congress, the courts, and the people, he and his emissaries must not be handicapped in advance in their relations with foreign governments as has sometimes happened in the past.”
—Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
“The world is unimportant and whoever recognizes this conquers his liberty.”
—Albert Camus (19131960)
“... a legitimate revolution must be led by, made by those who have been most oppressed: black, brown, yellow, red, and white womenwith men relating to that the best they can.”
—Robin Morgan (b. 1941)
“The Unicorn looked dreamily at Alice, and said Talk, child.
Alice could not help her lips curling up into a smile as she began: Do you know, I always thought Unicorns were fabulous monsters, too? I never saw one alive before!
Well, now that we have seen each other, said the Unicorn, if youll believe in me, Ill believe in you. Is that a bargain?”
—Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (18321898)
