In storm information below, windspeed advisories differ from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center to the Japan Meteorological Agency as the JTWC uses the U.S. criteria of 1-minute mean to designate maximum sustained winds, while the JMA uses the 10-minute mean wind criteria to designate tropical cyclone maximum sustained winds. This difference generally means that JTWC maximum winds will appear to be higher than the maximum winds described by the JMA for the same cyclone.

Famous quotes containing the word storms:

    Beneath the azure current floweth;
    Above, the golden sunlight glows.
    Rebellious, the storm it wooeth,
    As if the storms could give repose.
    Mikhail Lermontov (1814–1841)

    It’s the set of the soul that decides the goal,
    And not the storms or the strife.
    Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850–1919)

    The world-spirit is a good swimmer, and storms and waves can not drown him. He snaps his fingers at laws; and so, throughout history, heaven seems to affect low and poor means. Through the years and the centuries, through evil agents, through toys and atoms, a great and beneficent tendency irresistibly streams.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
