The Second Balkenende cabinet fell prematurely on June 30, 2006 after the D66 bailed out over objections to Rita Verdonk's handling of the Ayaan Hirsi Ali citizenship controversy. After the 2006 Dutch general elections two key players in the 2003 formation Balkenende and Bos face of for another round in the 2006-2007 Dutch cabinet formation.
