The 2002 Iowa Hawkeyes football team represented the University of Iowa during the 2002 college football season. The Hawkeyes played their home games at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa and were coached by Kirk Ferentz.
Finishing the regular-season with an 11–1 record, they were an undefeated 8–0 in the Big Ten with the one loss coming to rival Iowa State. However, even with all the regular season success that included a Co-Big Ten championship, the Hawkeyes could do little right in the 2003 Orange Bowl, and lost 38-17 to the USC Trojans. Despite the humbling loss, the 11 wins is an Iowa record for wins in a single season.

Famous quotes containing the words iowa, football and/or team:
“When I was growing up I used to think that the best thing about coming from Des Moines was that it meant you didnt come from anywhere else in Iowa. By Iowa standards, Des Moines is a mecca of cosmopolitanism, a dynamic hub of wealth and education, where people wear three-piece suits and dark socks, often simultaneously.”
—Bill Bryson (b. 1951)
“In football they measure forty-yard sprints. Nobody runs forty yards in basketball. Maybe you run the ninety-four feet of the court; then you stop, not on a dime, but on Miss Libertys torch. In football you run over somebodys face.”
—Donald Hall (b. 1928)
“Theyre two good old friends of mine. I call them Constitution and The Bill of Rights. A most dependable team for long journeys. Then Ive got another one called Missouri Compromise. And a Supreme Courta fine, dignified horse, though you have to push him on every now and then.”
—Dan Totheroh (18951976)
