1953 Little League World Series
The 1953 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, featured teams from Birmingham, Alabama, and Schenectady, New York. The Birmingham All-Stars won the series by winning the final game in a 1-0 pitching battle. The team from Birmingham included Ralph Boyer, Anthony Cherry, Dicky DeRoberts, Ed Donahoo, Percy Goodwin, Bruce Gordon, Richard Green, Jim Hicks, Joe Johnson, Ken McCain, Joe Sims, Roy Strickland, Joe Mack Thaxton, and Bradley Wideman. The managers were Jack Kinney, Emmett Goodwin, and John Creamer.
The Birmingham Public Library commemorated the victory in 2003.
