Yaiba - Cultural References

Cultural References

  • It appears Yaiba was highly inspired by Dragon Ball. As was the case with Dragon Ball, both series began as a kind of light-hearted gag manga, but towards the end of their run the tone became more serious and action-packed.
  • Three of the main characters, Yaiba, Sayaka and Yaiba's tiger Kagetora, appear to have been based on characters from the anime Manga Mito-Kōmon, an animated version of the long-running Japanese television drama Mito Kōmon, which is parodied in chapter 37 of Yaiba.
  • It should be noted that in Yaiba's world, there are King Kong sized gorillas, tigers and vultures in Japan.
