Xbox Embedded Operating System
- The Xbox does not have an operating system per se, instead it only has a basic BIOS.
- Everything else must go into the main executable and its (XDK and own-made) libraries.
- Only a single thread (executable program) can run at a time on the Xbox.
- Xbox hard drive file system (FATX) has many limitations, among them a maximum file name length of 42 characters.
- The Xbox has four non-standard USB ports but the Xbox SDK (a.k.a. XDK) does not contain a full USB stack, thus to add support for USB hardware devices, the developer would have to code the entire USB stack from scratch.

Famous quotes containing the words embedded, operating and/or system:
“It was your severed image that grew sweeter,
That floated, wing-stiff, focused in the sun
Along uncertainty and gales of shame
Blown out before I slept. Now you are one
I dare not think alive: only a name
That chimes occasionally, as a belief
Long since embedded in the static past.”
—Philip Larkin (19221986)
“Go on then in doing with your pen what in other times was done with the sword; shew that reformation is more practicable by operating on the mind than on the body of man.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“... in America ... children are instructed in the virtues of the system they live under, as though history had achieved a happy ending in American civics.”
—Mary McCarthy (19121989)
