WVOX - 50th Anniversary Celebration

50th Anniversary Celebration

On Sep. 14, 2009, WVOX celebrated its 50th anniversary with on-air festivities running all day from 9 AM to 6 PM. Station head William O'Shaughnessy presided as both current and former on-air personalities, local politicians, and other well-known figures offered their thoughts and congratulations, both in-studio and via telephone. In addition, vintage airchecks of memorable moments in the station's history were featured throughout the day.

Famous quotes containing the words anniversary and/or celebration:

The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more
    John Adams (1735–1826)

    Sweet weight,
in celebration of the woman I am
and of the soul of the woman I am
and of the central creature and its delight
I sing for you. I dare to live.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
