World Knowledge Forum

The World Knowledge Forum is a fete of knowledge, the biggest in Asia. It is also known as Asia's Davos Forum (World Economic Forum). Established in October 2000, the World Knowledge Forum gathers more than 150 business and opinion leaders from around the world ranging from environmental and international organizations to world's biggest corporations and institutions. These leaders predict the future and discuss possible solutions for problems that are already, or might become, an issue. The main aim is to highlight the importance of knowledge sharing towards a balanced prosperity of the global economy. The WKF is hosted by Maeil Business Newspaper, Korea's premier business daily. The conference is the largest of its kind in Korea and since 2000 over 2500 local and global leaders from business, government and academic sectors have attended.

Forum themes have ranged from “Shaping the New Millennium With Knowledge” in 2000 to “Knowledge in a World of Risk” in 2002; from “Creativity & Collaboration: Foundation of the New Era” in 2005 to “Collabonomics & Greater Asia” in 2008. The 2010 WKF overall theme was “One Asia Momentum: G20 Leadership And Creatinnovation”.

The theme for 2012 is "The Great Breakthrough: New Solutions for Global Crisis".

The World Economy is hard to predict even to the nearest future. There were not many who predicted the European crisis before. Simultaneously, emerging countries reorganize the world order. Empowered by fresh perspective, emerging countries challenge the established world economic governance.

More than 30 elections throughout the globe in 2012 also impose influence. In the end, a nation with creative leadership armed by new imaginative solutions in economics will become competitive in the new paradigm of the world. Creative leadership is issue of not only national leaders but also business ones. For a new year of 2013, how should they revise corporate management? How should we utilize the opportunities and where should we find the engine for the new growth? What could be the pre-requisite for creative leadership, and what kind of strategies and imaginations do we need?

The World Knowledge Forum is going to find an answer to these questions from October 9th to 11th 2012 under the theme of ‘The Great Breakthrough: New Solutions for Global Crisis.’
