Places of Worship

Woolton features three Christian Churches. St. Peter's Church of England is located opposite its church hall. St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church is found about fifty yards down Church Road and along a driveway around 150 yards south-west of St. Peters.

Bob Paisley, the legendary Liverpool F.C. manager from 1974 to 1983, was buried in the churchyard of St Peter's after his death in February 1996.

Finally St. James's Methodist is found on Church Road South, facing its Church Hall. The old congregational church is now a nursing home at the junction of Quarry St South and High St.

Famous quotes containing the words places and/or worship:

The journalists think that they cannot say too much in favor of such “improvements” in husbandry; it is a safe theme, like piety; but as for the beauty of one of these “model farms,” I would as lief see a patent churn and a man turning it. They are, commonly, places merely where somebody is making money, it may be counterfeiting.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Almost like a god looking at her terribly out of the everlasting dark, she had felt the eyes of that horse; great glowing, fearsome eyes, arched with a question, and containing a white blade of light like a threat. What was his non-human question, and his uncanny threat? She didn’t know. He was some splendid demon, and she must worship him.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)
