Wooden Bat League

Wooden Bat League

Wooden bat leagues are amateur baseball leagues in the United States that use wood bats instead of bats made of aluminum or composites. Most such leagues play in the summer months, during the traditional break in the academic year, and are approved by the NCAA.

Because professional baseball exclusively uses wood bats—with the exception of some low-level minor leagues that allow approved composite bats to ease young players' transition to wood—these leagues are heavily scouted by Major League Baseball teams, who can determine how well a college prospect can hit with the same bats used in MLB.

Famous quotes containing the words wooden and/or league:

    You think a wooden animal
    is a simple thing;
    it’s not.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

    He will deliver you from six troubles; in seven no harm shall touch you. In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword. You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and shall not fear destruction when it comes. At destruction and famine you shall laugh, and shall not fear the wild animals of the earth. For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the wild animals shall be at peace with you.
    Bible: Hebrew, Job 5:19-23.
