Changing Times, WKY As A Talk Station

During the mid-90's, OPUBCO turned over operation of WKY to Clear Channel Communications who operated the station through a local marketing agreement. Finally, in 2002, OPUBCO sold the station to Citadel Broadcasting after 74 years of ownership. WKY had been the last vestige of the once-vast Gaylord broadcasting empire.

From 2000-2002, WKY was a talk station. It flirted with sports talk, with two local sports talk shows in the drive time periods. "SuperTalk 930 WKY" was launched in March 2003. The format featured local-oriented talk shows throughout the day with some syndicated talk shows during the evening and weekend.

Famous quotes containing the words changing, talk and/or station:

Why do otherwise sane, competent, strong men, men who can wrestle bears or raid corporations, shrink away in horror at the thought of washing a dish or changing a diaper?
    Frank Pittman (20th century)

If this bureau had a prayer for use around horse parks, it would go something like this: Lead us not among bleeding-hearts to whom horses are cute or sweet or adorable, and deliver us from horse-lovers. Amen.... With that established, let’s talk about the death of Seabiscuit the other night. It isn’t mawkish to say, there was a racehorse, a horse that gave race fans as much pleasure as any that ever lived and one that will be remembered as long and as warmly.
    Walter Wellesley (Red)

It was evident that the same foolish respect was not here claimed for mere wealth and station that is in many parts of New England; yet some of them were the “first people,” as they are called, of the various towns through which we passed.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
